Anxiety can affect everyone including our children. Through the use of essential oils, I’d like to talk with you about three very effective essential oils which have a high content of Linalool, the natural component found in some essential oils that calms the Nervous System, it’s an anti-inflammatory and it helps people feel calm and relaxed while supporting the Immmune System. The three essential oils I’m referring to are Lavender, Bergamot Mint and Neroli.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)
Bergamot Mint (Mentha citrata)
Neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara)
Let’s say someone was recovering from a broken arm or a bad fall . Pain itself can cause anxiety and stress. If we use essential oils high in Linalool such as the three mentioned above we can help our family and loved ones reduce their anxiety whether it’s physical or emotional pain their dealing with.
Lavender is rich in Linalool and Linalyl Acetate which I mentioned in my previous post. Lavender is wonderful in a crisis because it supports healing of just about every type of light physical injury (scrapes, cuts, bruises, swelling, insect bites, acnes and skin irritations) plus it supports our emotional well being and brings us peace and calm. This is because it has sedative-like and anxiety relieving properties.
Bergamot Mint has a very calming effect on the Nervous System. Some of it’s properties are the clearing of mucous congestion, respiratory support, easing nausea, and feeling motivated and inspired. Deep breaths of Bergamot Mint make you feel healthy and inspired. It has a warm, fresh fruity aroma that wake the senses and pep you up when you need an extra boost of energy.
Neroli has a deep, warm floral scent! It calms anxiety for pre-operative patients and people who are experiencing shock or trauma. Again, Neroli is rich in Linalool. It’s precious oil comes from hand picked blossoms but very little oil is in each blossom which is why it’s a little pricy but a little Neroli goes a long way!
I’ve listed an anxiety relief roll on for kids which they can carry in their backpack or in their pocket. Here is the recipe and it’s very easy to make.
In a 10ml roll on bottle, add:
10 mls Jojoba oil
1 drop of Lavender
1 drop of Bergamot Mint
Combine the essential oils with the Jojoba oil in the 10 ml bottle, snap the roller ball top into place and give it a small shake. Ready to use.
For Adults, here is the same recipe but slightly strongr for adult use.
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Bergamot Mint
2 drops Neroli
10 ml roll on bottle
Fill with 10 mls of Jojoba oil
I really like to use Jojoba oil in most of my products only because it is so nourishing to the skin and it penetrates faster into your pores which allows the essential oils to get into the blood stream quicker and do their job! Jojoba oil is used in many facial and body creams and shampoos. It moisturizes skin and hair and nourishes your skin against dryness and chapping. In case you didn’t know it’s not really an oil. It’s a wax!
How about an inhaler that supports stress and anxiety relief?.
An inhaler is a tube with a cotton wick inside. Simply place the essential oils of your choice on the wick, return the wick to the tube put the cap on and your ready to go. It’s very easy to carry with you any where you go.
4 drops of Lavender
3 drops Bergamot Mint
2 drops of Neroli
7 drops Lavender
6 drops Bergamot Mint
2 drops Neroli
Returning to the use of essential oils for reducing our levels of stress and anxiety there are many to choose from but when considering using some for this purpose, check to see how much Linalool and Linalyl Acetate the oil has, then you know you’ve got a winner!
Thank you for reading this! Until next Tuesday!
